About Old

Curated Things  is here to share my obsession with old, rustic, eclectic vintage goods in addition to my  need to make classic, ethnic, urban jewelry pieces. My name is Susan, and I’m very big on repurposing old things, and I will almost always choose an old vintage item (with a good story attached to it) over something brand new and shiny.  There are exceptions, but for the most part that’s what I prefer.

I’m forever on the hunt for the quirky, unusual and odd vintage things that catch my eye. Flea markets, thrift stores and garage sales are my friends.🙂  I tend to buy what I like without giving much thought to provenance or market value. If an item strikes a fancy with me, and the price is right, the item will usually find its way home with me.

DSC08342.JPGI also enjoy making unique, OOAK art and statement jewelry pieces that have a clean, simple, uncomplicated, classic look with an ethnic twist. I’ve always been drawn towards a more classic, simple and modern esthetic when it comes to jewelry-making and that’s what you will find in my etsy shop alongside the other quirky vintage things that I’ve thrown in. The handmade pieces in my shop are designed and created by me. In addition I occasionally build and sell unique handmade jewelry displays.

In an effort not to become a complete hoarder with my collecting and making, I’ve put together a good mix of curated vintage  items, alongside some of my handmade jewelry, and offer them for sales on etsy.com.

I’m big on all kinds of DIY projects and luckily I married a man whose let’s me indulge my impulsive need to start all kinds of projects around the house, even when the last one might now be entirely finished. I get them all done eventually, but I think creativity is a process that can’t be rushed, so you have to jump when the inspiration strikes you, right?  I’ve even caught my husband bragging about how handy I am, so he can’t be too annoyed with me. 🙂
